Quote I’m pondering“Do you love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.” – Benjamin Franklin

Michael Spencer – a prolific writer on Medium has written a terrifically detailed piece about Google research into what makes a great manager. Project Oxygen is well known to many already, yet how Michael distils and breaks down the 10 things Google has discovered is excellent and well worth the read.

Hooray! Malcolm Gladwell is back with Revisionist History season 4, the greatest podcast outside of The Tim Ferriss Show. If you are not already listening to revisionist History then go here right now and change your perspective and get inspired.

Make positivity louderGary Vaynerchuk shared a fantastic message about sharing good. With technology today it’s easy to feel like the loudest people are the most negative. I’m with him on sharing goodness, if you have good please share it too. The world of content needs more good.

Favourite App – I’ve updated my 1Blocker app on my iPhone and it’s better than ever. It’s single handedly the best content blocker I’ve used on my phone and it’s even available for your Mac too. It blocks ads, trackers and more and it’s very customisable too. If you have an Apple device you need 1Blocker.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend doing the things you enjoy with the people you love.

Quote I’m pondering “Every one of you is a super genius if you just focus your common sense.” –  Eliyahu Goldratt

What I’m reading – Staying with Eli Goldratt, I’ve started reading The Goal again, a book an old friend I used to work with recommended to me years ago. Its overall theme is continuous development and Eli was the person who introduced the Theory of Constraints.  It’s a fantastic book I recommend and interestingly it’s written like a novel, so not your usual business book. A great summary can be found at Forbes.com.

Planting seeds of Happiness – My wife watched a TED talk from Malene Rydahl recently and thought I’d like it too, it’s terrific. We’ve been in Denmark for a year now and our children are blossoming more than we imagined. Malene easily explains the 3 human values behind this happiness. They are Trust, Freedom to be you & Finding purpose. I highly recommend watching her 16 minute TED talk, it’s entertaining and mind blowing. If you make the choices suggested, it could change your life and those around you significantly.

Most interesting internet read – According to Inc.com Microsoft studied what was making employees miserable in its Surface and Xbox teams. It found 1 thing that it now coaches all managers on. That thing is the number of people attending a meeting. This wasn’t my experience while at Xbox in the UK, yet it’s still great advice for anyone who manages teams.

Favourite purchase – My family and I live in a wonderful place near a forest. It’s peaceful and only 30 minutes from the centre of Copenhagen by tain. The only downside so far, is that while the sun rises at 3:30am the birds begin to sing and I mean really sing! It’s a wonderful sound, hearing the early bird chorus, yet between the hours of 3:30am and 6am it’s also disturbing and keeps me awake. So when the birds start, I roll over and put in Macks earplugs, they’re amazing. If you’re looking for an earplug solution where you can’t feel them while sleeping (even on your side), then try Macks (I use the pillow soft ones).

Quote I’m pondering “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.” – John Wooden

I’ve recently started to Bullet journal and I can’t believe I didn’t look into this before now. If you don’t know what it is then check this link for an overview

I’m using the Leuchtturm1917 notebook.

Looking for a summer read?  Bill Gates does it again with a fantastic selection. My wife bought me A Gentleman in Moscow, a gripping read that may actually take most of the summer for me to finish due to it’s size!

I finished the podcast To Live and Die in LA (mentioned in my 5 share last week). I have to say it’s one of my favourite non lifestyle design podcasts. It has all the ingredients needed: compelling, thrilling, reflective, action and adventurous. If you’re looking for a true life / crime listen then look no further.

Parenting and entrepreneurshipThis article by Mario Peshev has some great tips (even if you’re not a parent). I already practice the 1-3-5 list technique, which he lists as No. 3 Level up your time management and productivity, it has the benefit of helping me feel accomplished when I finish up work. His No. 5 Let working hours be all about work is also a crucial lesson I adopted years ago (from Tim Ferriss’ blog). Check out the other 6 and improve how you focus.

Quote I’m pondering – “Your goal in life is to find out the people who need you the most, to find out the business that needs you the most, to find the project and the art that needs you the most. There is something out there just for you.“Naval Ravikant

How to read faster – I’m finding time to read is getting less and less for me  nowadays, so I’ve gone back to a Tim Ferriss blog on how to read faster. It requires some specific practice and I’m not finished yet, though the results so far have been pretty amazing! Try it yourself and you’ll see what I mean.

Podcast I’m listening toTo live and die in LA – This was shared in Tim Ferriss’ own Friday email and I got hooked instantly. There are mixed feelings from many listeners (15 million and counting), with some saying it’s amazing and others really disliking it. I’m enjoying it so far and have made it to episode 7 still keen to listen to more. If you’re interested in true crime this short form podcast might be right up your street.

The £20 boiled egg in London – A friend shared the below on Twitter and I was happy I read all the way through (as the author suggests). Take a look yourself, as there is more to the £20 boiled egg than you might think..

Do you get cold on passenger planes? – I was on a flight this week where it was so cold even the blankets didn’t keep me warm. I asked why it needed to be arctic conditions and the airline staff didn’t know themselves, so when we landed I looked it up. Apparently it’s for our own benefit, and the Telegraph newspaper  went on a discovery of it’s own to find out (click the link to read).
